Perhaps it happened in a dream. Or maybe it happened while you were meditating, while you were relaxing in a tub, or even while you were driving down the street! Wherever it happens, a meeting with your unborn child can fill your heart with overwhelming love, warmth, affection, and excitement for the new one coming into your life.
What is prebirth communication?
It's any form of communication someone has with an unborn child. Some women experience prebirth communication in the form of a dream. Others experience it via their inner thoughts or by signs in their daily life. Sometimes it seems to be just a one way conversation -- an unborn child getting a message through to the parent, for example. Other times it's a two way dialogue, complete with questions and responses. Some of the women we've spoken with have reported experiencing just one kind, whereas others report having experienced several. All types can greatly increase the bond and love shared between the parent (or grandparent) and unborn child.
As you read the stories, articles, and exercises we have on our site, please keep in mind that there are no right or wrong ways to experience prebirth communication. Everyone's experiences with it are unique.
What is prebirth communication like?
Dreams
Prebirth communication can be as simple as a dream. Some dreams give the mother valuable information about her pregnancy or baby. For example, many moms first find out about their pregnancy from a dream. This dream can come before the pregnancy begins, but more often comes within the first couple of weeks of pregnancy, before the mother is even far enough along to do a pregnancy test or note the physical signs of pregnancy. Dreams may also alert the mother-to-be about the need to do something differently, in order to have an healthy child or an easier delivery. Other dreams may be fun and enjoyable experience in which the mother is able to meet her unborn child, sometimes even years before she becomes pregnant. Many mothers who have dreams of this nature notice the unborn child's appearance and personality, and later discover that their pregnancy dreams had been quite accurate! For more information about dreams as a form of prebirth communication, you may wish to read our article Spiritual Dreams During Pregnancy. You'll also find some true stories as well as some dream tips on the same page.
Inner Dialogue and Inner Knowingness
Many women experience prebirth communication in the form of intuition or inner knowingness. Some women, for example, simply KNOW that they are pregnant very early on in their pregnancies. Others are very much aware of what gender baby they are having, even without having a lab test to tell them. Some women even share inner dialogues with their unborn child. For stories, information, and techniques about inner knowningness and sharing an inner dialogue, see our knowingness page.
Signs
Signs, or divine messages, can also be a form of prebirth communication. These signs can announce the pregnancy, the baby's gender, the fact that the mother is having twins, some sort of complication, and more. For more on signs during pregnancy, including some true stories, please see our article on signs.
Who has prebirth communication?
Anyone can. Sometimes it's just the mother-to-be. Other times "Dad" has some experiences of his own. Grandparents, close friends, and even siblings of the new baby have also reported prebirth communication.
How does one go about sharing in this inner communication with the unborn child?
Tips and Techniques
The first step is increasing one's awareness. Read some of the stories on the different pages of our site and familiarize yourself with the various types of experiences others have reported. Begin to think about these types of experiences, and look for them in your own life. Expect them!
Second, begin to keep a dream journal, if you aren't already doing so. Doing so can help you remember your dreams better, and can often also help you decipher their meaning. Record unusual things that happen to you during the day too. Doing this can help you learn to be more aware of signs.
Third, begin to trust your intuition more. Start off with small things, such as which way to drive home, or which foods to have for dinner. If you are already pregnant, consider silently asking your baby which foods he or she would prefer that you eat that night. Then select the first meal that pops into your head (unless, of course, it's something you know is bad for you or the baby). If you can't decide between two pictures for the baby's nursery, maybe you'd like to ask your unborn baby.
Fourth, if you'd like to have some prebirth communication with your baby, let your baby know that! You can talk to your baby in your head, or write a letter to your unborn child (Don't worry about mailing it. Just leave it beside your bed.) anytime you'd like. Try not to feel silly; just trust that your thoughts are being heard and your letters are being read.
